Battery domestic violence is a misdemeanor in Nevada. Domestic violence involving strangulation through direct contact with the neck is charged as felony battery. Battery in the presence of children could lead to additional charges of child endangerment.

First offenses are charged as misdemeanor domestic violence and carry penalties that include:

  • Maximum $1,000 in fines plus court administrative costs
  • Between 48 and 120 hours of community service
  • Participation in weekly domestic violence counseling for a minimum of six but no more than 12 months

Second offenses are still charged as misdemeanors and could result in:

  • Up to six months in jail
  • Maximum $1,000 in fines plus court administrative costs
  • Between 109 and 200 hours of community service
